Mick Jackson’s first novel, The Underground Man, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and won the Royal Society of Authors First Novel Award. He has published three other novels and two story collections for adults and has also written for TV. His story ‘The Pearce Sisters’ was adapted by Aardman Animation and won a BAFTA.
Mick came to children’s books through reading to his own kids, when he found that the books he most admired (by writers like Astrid Lindgren, Quentin Blake and Allan Ahlberg) were quite eccentric, but underpinned with tenderness – elements which also feature strongly in his own stories.
Mick’s first picture book is Ella May Does It Her Way, published by Words and Pictures (Quarto). He lives in Brighton.
